The Brisbane City Botanic Gardens are located right on the banks of the river and on the edge of the CBD. The large park, which was opened in 1855, is the perfect place to take a detour into the countryside and put your feet up for a few minutes during a long day of sightseeing.

There is a lovely bamboo grove, a fig avenue, palm plantations, beautiful ponds and a wide variety of plants to see. There is also always a lot going on here, as the locals come to the botanical gardens during their lunch break to relax or do some exercise.

Info: There is no admission charge for the botanical gardens and they are open 24 hours a day.
Tip: Free one-hour tours of the botanical gardens take place every day (except Sundays and public holidays) at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
