In the northeastern part of the Kastellet is the Monument for Denmark's International Operations since 1948 (Monument for Danmarks Internationale Indsats efter 1948). It was inaugurated by Queen Margrethe II in 2011 and designed by the artist Finn Reinbothe. The memorial consists of three symbolic spaces represented by granite walls: "En tid" is a parade ground for official ceremonies. "En sted" lists the names of 52 countries and locations where Denmark has participated in international missions since 1948 on granite walls. "Et menneske" is a memorial space with an eternal flame and the names of the 112 Danish personnel who died during operations abroad.
