On Rennweg in Landstraße is the Palais Hoyos, which today houses the Croatian embassy. The Viennese Art Nouveau architect Otto Wagner (1841-1918) had it built in 1890 according to his own plans in the historicist style. The facade is decorated with Art Nouveau elements. The building is therefore considered crucial in Wagner's transition from historicism to Art Nouveau. Wagner wanted to use it as a residential building himself. This resolution did not last long, as in 1903 he sold the building to Countess Maria Hoyos. Its use as a studio only lasted until 1894.
The Hoyos family sold the house in 1957 to what was then Yugoslavia, which first used it as an embassy. After the dissolution of Yugoslavia in 2003, it became the embassy of Serbia. The Croatian embassy moved there in 2011.

The palace was built in 1890 by Otto Wagner, together with the houses at Rennweg 1 and 5. Wagner kept the middle one at Rennweg No. 3, the later Palais Hoyos, for himself. In the next building, at Rennweg No. 5, lived among others: Gustav Mahler from 1898 to 1909. The building site was previously home to the former Trinity Hospital and then the barracks of the k. k. aristocratic Polish bodyguards and ultimately the barracks of the Arcièren-Leibgarde (bodyguard barracks).
