The giant sequoia has been in Europe since 1853. The tree grows up to 100 m high in its native Sierra Nevada, California, and up to 50 m here. Giant sequoias reach an age of between 400 and 1000 years in their native habitat. The trunk (circumference up to 20 m) has a thick, spongy, reddish-brown bark. There are 2 old trees in the forest park, the one in the southern part is particularly worth seeing. A third, younger specimen is near the music pavilion. (Source: Forest Garden flyer)
