Erected in 1934 to mark the 300th anniversary of the founding of Trois-Rivicres, the monument is the work of the sculptor Jean-Jacques Cuvelier. This monument is a tribute to Lavérendrye and other explorers: Pierre Gauthier de Varennes / de Lavérendrye (1685-1749), Jean Nicolet (1598-1642), Pierre Pépin (1652-1722), Pierre-Esprit Radisson and Médardor Chouart des Groseilliers, as well as Nicolas Perrot (1641-1717) and Christophe Dufrost. In addition to the bust on the pedestal, the monument includes a colonnade supported by 4 columns.
