As early as 1937/38, a power plant based on the Arno Fischer design was built on the Iller with the Iller dam 7 - Maria Steinbach. According to the Arno Fischer design, level 7 went online on the Iller in 1938, level 6 in 1943, level 5 in 1944 and level 8 in 1948.

In 2014, a fish ladder was built and in 2015, an observation tower was built in the underwater area.
