A nice highlight on the tour with historical explanations on information boards… but you have to earn it a little… it goes steeply uphill beforehand

The Alteburg is a Celtic rampart (wall castle) with two gates, which was surrounded by a moat and a stone wall. The fortifications were partially reconstructed by the Biebergemünd historical association. The Alteburg covers an area of 500 m by 150 m. In the center there were living quarters made of wood and clay. Charcoal remains have been dated to the 6th century BC. During an excavation by the Hessian State Office for Monument Preservation in 1999, pre-Celtic and Roman finds were also made. From this it can be concluded that this settlement area was also inhabited in pre- and post-Celtic times.

There's only a small defensive wall. There's an information board there. The Celts lived here. The name is also misleading. One thinks more of a knight's castle.
