The first area offered by the Monfalcone Great War Theme Park is the redoubt of Quota 121. This is the highest point of the Karst from which it is possible to admire a splendid panorama of both the Slovenian side and the Friulian plain and the Adriatic Sea. In the summer of 1915 it was transformed into one of the bulwarks of the Austro-Hungarian defense and repelled all the attacks conducted by the Third Army until August 1916 (Sixth Battle of the Isonzo). Having passed under Italian control, Quota 121 became the front line and faced the new enemy positions, located on Quota 77 and at the height of Lake Pietrarossa.

The traces that can still be seen and followed today are a faithful testimony of these facts. The entrenched system is interspersed with various machine gun positions and caves used as shelter. Most of these fortifications were built by the Italian military during their occupation using the pre-existing Austro-Hungarian lines. Furthermore, along the entire route it is still possible to read "war inscriptions", i.e. the writings left by the soldiers engaged in the work of garrisoning and strengthening the trench itself.
Built where a "fort" stood in prehistoric times
