If you approach Quellendorf from Dessau or Köthen, the tall, slender church tower greets you from afar, which, interestingly, is right in the street. In the middle of the centrally located cemetery stands the almost 750-year-old parish church “St. Christopher.”

The local priest “Kapellan Theodoricus de Qualenddorp” is mentioned for the first time in documents from 1265 and 1266. The nave, choir and apse date from the time it was built. When the stone church no longer offered enough space for people, it was decided to auction off the old half-timbered tower. In 1863, the church received a 40-meter-high brick tower that was added to the front. The nave could thus be expanded and underwent a neo-Gothic renovation. The small arched windows and doors were replaced with extremely high pointed arch openings.

Today the interior is characterized by the massive Romanesque triumphal arch made of sandstone, which distinguishes the nave and choir from each other. Noteworthy are the offering box from 1562, the richly decorated baroque pulpit from 1677, and the organ case from 1750, which was artfully designed by the master organ builder Johann Christoph Zuberbier. Visitors are given an insight into the history of the church and the ecclesiastical in a small exhibition in the entrance area Life today.

St. Christopher's Church. A Romanesque stone and fieldstone church with a recessed choir and semicircular apse. Rebuilt in the Gothic style between 1861 and 1863. The tower dates from 1863 and has a pointed roof.
