What was to become East Bridgewater was settled by Europeans as early as the 1630s, and at the time was still considered an extension of the plantations of Plymouth and Duxbury. The small town developed from agriculture to iron industry and especially to arms production during the American Revolution. Today, East Bridgewater is primarily a residential community with some cafés and restaurants.
