Hiking Highlight
This Highlight is in a protected area
Please check local regulations for: Naturpark Bayerische Rhön
The border between Bavaria and Hesse runs over the Heidelstein. If you take the time and take a break here, you can enjoy a wonderful view over the Lange Rhön. The Kreuzberg is easily recognizable by the masts in a southern direction. If visibility is good, the Hohe Meißner can be seen in the north, the Thuringian Forest in the east and the Große Feldberg in the west.
Please be careful when dealing with nature, especially here in the nature reserve. Take the beautiful pictures and memories with you, but above all the garbage and always stay on the paths. Thanks a lot.

The Heidelstein transmitter is located on the 926 m high Heidelstein in the Franconian part of the Rhön. It consists of a 218 meter high guyed tubular steel mast built by Deutsche Telekom AG in 1969, which carries antennas for radio relay and for broadcasting TV and VHF radio programs.

All around the Heidelstein you have great views and an excellent view, if the weather permits 😉

Whenever I have been in the Rhön in the past few years, a hike over the Heidelstein was part of the program. Since the Heidelstein is not overcrowded, the slogan “Rhön - the open distant” applies particularly well up here. Up here, quasi "On Top of the World", it is always worth stopping and letting your gaze wander over the neighboring Kreuzberg and the Wasserkuppe. Depending on the weather, you can see as far as the Thuringian Forest and the upstream Henneberg, Rhömhild and Dollmar. In the south and southwest the Spessart attracts and in the west the Vogelsberg.

Excellent distant view over the heights of the Rhön

View from the summit of Heidelstein (925 m) over the large malls to Taufstein in Vogelsberg, about 70 km away.

At 926m, the Heidelstein is a magnificent panoramic mountain. Located between the Wasserkuppe and the Kreuzberg you have a wonderful all-round view.
February 27, 2022
At 925.7m, the Heidelstein is the fourth highest mountain in the Rhön. The summit point is not open to the public, as the striking 218m high transmission mast and the surrounding buildings of the Heidelstein transmitter are company premises.

Nice way to the Heidelstein with great views all around. Very beautiful!
July 5, 2022
Great view on the climb towards Grabfeld and Thuringia, on the other side towards Kreuzberg, Arnsberg and Hessian Rhön.
November 1, 2016
Great view with a beautiful climb over the mountain meadows
August 23, 2017
Wonderful view, soft Rhöner mats, on which running is great fun, and the rough, romantic look of the Hochrhön. A dream.
April 24, 2020
When the weather is good, the transmitter mast accompanies you almost constantly on every hike around the Wasserkuppe and Red Moor 😉
Sometimes, however, you stand right in front of it and cannot see it at all because of clouds and fog 😳
October 13, 2020
Now and then you can enjoy the sunset and the full moon rise almost simultaneously or in quick succession. So on April 17, 2021 from 8:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. 10. !!!
