The Matapihi Rail Bridge, an iconic structure at the southern edge of central Tauranga, was constructed by the East Coast Main Trunk Railway and completed in 1924.
Linking downtown Tauranga with the Matapihi peninsula over Tauranga Harbour, the bridge was later enhanced in the 1950s with a dedicated pathway for pedestrians and cyclists.
