The Church of San Pietro is one of the most important churches in Grosseto and also the oldest. A previous church from the late 8th to early 9th centuries was replaced here in 1138. This date, 1138, was the time when the episcopal see was transferred from Roselle to Grosseto. Due to further renovations and additions to the building in the 12th and 13th centuries, different architectural styles can be found on the facade. It is believed that the church was even considered a cathedral. A crucifix from the 14th century can be seen inside.
