The entire complex was originally covered with earth. Due to their size and relatively well-preserved condition, the Sloopsteine are known throughout Westphalia and the Osnabrück area. Over 4,000 years ago, this megalithic tomb served as the final resting place for members of the clan that lived here at that time.

As early as 1807 and 1856, urns and grave goods were searched for at the Sloopsteenen with almost no success. Grave robbers have been there before. The tombs were used until the Bronze Age.
