From here you can follow the Bird Mountain Trail as it switchbacks up toward the junction between Bird and England Mountains, or you can follow the more gradual gravel doubletrack of the West Lookout Tower Trail to approach Bird and Bald Knob from the east.

If you’re going to the campsite try to pack light. You gain elevation pretty consistently so a good pair of hiking boots are worth it.

There was a downed tree early during the cutback, we managed to get over it safely, but use caution. Park staff was notified.

Trail was narrow but trekking poles helped. Definitely take your time and take breaks as needed. Don’t burn out early.
