The largest temple complex of Desa Sebatu 'Pura Gunung Kawi Sebatu' is located in a small valley below the village. The temple should not be confused with Candi Gunung Kawi, one of Bali's largest ancient temple complexes near the village of Tampaksiring. The history of the temple in Sebatu has not been clearly established to this day. The name 'Gunung Kawi' probably means a sacred place on a hill or cliff.

The layout and structure of the temple is similar to that of the Pura Tirta Empul in Tampaksiring, founded in the 10th century, in particular the worship of the deity Vishnu and the furnishing of the garden with public baths. It is possible that conclusions can be drawn about the age of the temple complex.
