As is well known, the Xaló River traverses the entire Pop Valley and flows on to Xàbia, where it empties into the sea. It is the backbone of the region, connecting all the villages. In fact, these villages were originally founded around the river to utilize the waters that could be drawn from its bed. Its banks bear witness to the various chapters of each town's history. However, when we focus on the village of Llíber, we must change the river's name, because at this point, the Xaló River becomes the Gorgos River.

Along the riverbanks, nourished by the terraces created over millennia, grew the various crops upon which the inhabitants' livelihoods depended. But it wasn't only the agriculture practiced by the people of Lliber that secured their livelihood; the riparian vegetation, which grew year after year, also enabled other activities such as the cultivation of rushes and reed beds.
