The pedestrian-only bridge crosses the Retrone River in the southeastern part of the city. In this "Venetian" form with a single arch, it was built in 1621-23, the third reconstruction of a structure originally made of wood (1265) and then of stone (1422).
It takes its name from its proximity to the Augustinian church of San Michele, built in the 13th century by the Augustinians but destroyed in Napoleonic times; today only part of the monastery remains.

This ancient bridge has survived many hundreds of years of traffic in the historic part of Vicenza . You can find it if you continue a walk down from the Piazza signori , behind the Basilica di Palladio . Its not big and possibly can be appreciated more if you go to the neighbouring bridge where you will get a good photo of it. The area has some nice little bars and restaurants to enjoy.
