The Ortler (Italian Ortles) is with a height of 3905 m s.l.m., according to Austrian measurement 3899 m above sea level. A.,  the highest elevation in the Italian province of South Tyrol and the Tyrol region. The heavily glaciated mountain, which is largely made up of the main dolomite, is the main summit of the Ortler Alps, a mountain group in the Southern Eastern Alps. His first ascent on the orders of Archduke Johann of Austria in 1804 is one of the most important alpine events of that time.
