A whaling station existed here from 1909 to 1965. It was the largest on South Georgia. There are still corresponding ruins that are not allowed to be visited.

Leith Harbor is the northernmost of three bays at the head of Stromness Bay on the north coast of South Georgia. The name has been known since at least 1912 and probably goes back to whalers from the company Salvesen & Co. in Leith, Scotland, who built a whaling station at the head of the bay.

Numerous animals can be discovered here.
