The Feldherrnhalle is located at the southern end of Odeonsplatz, between Theatinerstrasse and Residenzstraße. It was built between 1841 and 1844 by Friedrich von Gärtner on behalf of King Ludwig I. Ludwig had the Feldherrnhalle built as a memorial in honor of the Bavarian army. Two mighty stone lions watch over the bronze statues of the generals Graf Tilly and Prince Wrede as well as the Bavarian Army Memorial.

As part of the fortification of Munich, plans were drawn up as early as 1790 for a central square that would replace the Schwabinger Tor and make the driveway from the Residenz on Fürstenweg to Nymphenburg Palace (now Brienner Straße) more attractive. The complex in its present form goes back to the special commitment of King Ludwig I. In 1816, then still crown prince, he commissioned Leo von Klenze with the overall planning of Ludwigstrasse, which also includes Odeonsplatz.

On Odeonsplatz in Munich is the imposing Feldherrenhalle, the Theatinerkirche, a church in late Italian Baroque. Odeonsplatz is the starting point for the Hofgarten and the Residenz.

from the Odeonsplatz you come through an archway to the Hofgarten, in the archway arcades there are stations of the life of the Wittelsbach kings. As a statue stands Johann TˋSerclases von Tilly (1559 - 1632) supreme general, Catholic League and Imperial Army) in the Thirty Years' War. Carl Philipp Wrede is also in the Feldheernhalle (1767 - 1838) bayr. Field Marshal and Diplomat.

The monument to the Bavarian Army is part of the pedestrian zone. A detour beyond the main route is definitely worth it. Worth seeing!
