The rose garden is a former heathland area, which is now mostly bushy or wooded due to a lack of grazing. Heather can still be found in clearings and along the edges of the forest. The part of the nature reserve borders mainly on wooded areas. In the north, a forest path runs along the edge of the nature reserve.
The name "rose garden" goes back to a former horse rest and grazing area or an area with strong wild rose growth.
