The Marmolada was created when the original mountain dwellers skipped a Sunday mass in order to bring in the harvest before the onset of winter. It started snowing and didn't stop and the mountain people had to move into the valley.
However, a young woman remained on the mountain and was snowed in. For this reason she began to cry and her tears still feed the Torrente Avisio to this day.
