The Iron Bridge, crossing the River Severn in the village of the same name, represents so much more than just a bridge. When it opened in 1781, it was the first bridge to be made of iron in the world and has since become a symbol of the Industrial Revolution. The bridge is now a scheduled monument and makes up part of the UNESCO Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site.

No trip to Shropshire is complete without paying a visit to Ironbridge Gorge, home to the world's first iron bridge and the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. Built in 1779, the bridge gave its name to the town that grew around it and to the wooded gorge. As you admire the iconic bridge in its stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site setting, just imagine the scene of revolution all those years ago.
