If you go through the gorge to the top, this is an excellent route to choose for your way back.

The Avakas Gorge begins about 1 km before the small river Avgas flows into the Mediterranean and leads inland. It is about 3 km long and in parts only about 4 m wide with rock walls over 30 m high. The small river had carved its way through the limestone over the course of thousands of years. When there is heavy rainfall, the Avgas becomes a raging torrent due to the narrowness of the gorge. Warning signs at the entrance to the gorge warn hikers of this. The way back can be taken either through the gorge or along a path outside, which is, however, 10 km long.
The Avakas Gorge is characterized by a variety of plants. In addition to pines, cypresses, Phoenician juniper (Juniperus phoenicea) and wild fig trees, Centaurea akamantis, an endemic purple-pink knapweed that only occurs in the Avakas Gorge and the neighboring Argaki ton Koufon Gorge, also thrives here.
