A school in Gortz was first mentioned in the 17th century. At that time, Maria Liepe taught the Gortz children in her apartment for over 50 years. It was only after her death that a schoolhouse was built in the town. A new school building was built around 1800 on the foundations of this first school. After 1951 the house was used as a consumer and kindergarten. The house has been empty since 2005.
