A small town with a great history of changes over the centuries. The first mention of Auressio dates back to 1233 with the name of Oraxio.
In the Middle Ages it formed the municipality of Pedemonte with the villages of Verscio, Cavigliano and Tegna. In September 1800, Auressio saw the first signs of a revolt in Valle Onsernone against the Swiss regiments and French troops occupying Ticino. The prefect of Lugano ordered the military occupation of Auressio and the extradition of eight citizens. Subsequent modifications and changes continued until the early 1900s.
