A new congress center in the middle of the castle park serves as a “protocol facility” for the Government of the Republic of Slovenia, where important international conferences take place. For example, the castle hosted the IV Alpine Conference in 1996. During the Slovenian EU Council Presidency in the first half of 2008, it was used intensively for informal EU meetings as well as for the EU-USA summit, at which, among others, US President George W. Bush met with European heads of state and government.
