It is one of the older Bahntrassenradwege in Germany (opened in 1993), but one of the most beautiful. Almost without traffic, it leads over 24 kilometers from Freisen to Kusel, 17.5 kilometers of which are exactly on the former railway line. The track is not paved, but still easy to drive. Again and again you pass exciting tunnels, promising bridges and wonderful secluded woods. The first section (or the last, depending on the direction of travel) runs on Saarland soil and is marked there as the Saarland cycle path.

After the first 5 km from Altenglan to Kusel, the Fritz Wunderlich cycle path, named after the great singer who was born in Kusel, uses the route of a former railway line over 2 high viaducts and 2 tunnels. The predominantly water-bound surface and the guided tour over the old railway line, which is mostly surrounded by bushes and trees, give the path a calm, natural character.
