One of Iceland's greatest attractions. The Gullfoss with a height of over 30 meters

The largest waterfall in Iceland, very impressive!
From here you can book snowmobiling on the nearest glacier, highly recommended but very expensive!

Even if the weather is nice, you should have a rain jacket with you.

Gullfoss (the "golden waterfall") is one of Iceland's most iconic and popular waterfalls, located in the Hvítá River gorge in southwest Iceland.
The waters of the Hvítá River originate from the Langjökull glacier before cascading 32 metres down Gullfoss's two stages in a dramatic display of nature's raw power.
Due to the waterfall's two stages, Gullfoss should really be considered two separate elements. The first, shorter cascade is 11 metres high, while the second fall is 21 metres. The gorge walls on either side of the waterfall reach heights of up to 70 metres and lead down into the large Gullfossgjúfur Canyon. Geologists believe this canyon was formed by glacial melting at the start of the last ice age.

It is breathtaking with what force the water masses make their way into the depths. An even more impressive experience when the sun is shining.

Gullfoss (pronounced Güttelfoss) is a very beautiful and extremely impressive waterfall. A must see in Iceland.

Gullfoss waterfall is listed by World of Waterfalls as one of the top 10 waterfalls in the world. The mighty Hvítá (White River) is a glacial river that flows south straight out of Langjökull (Long Glacier) and gives Gullfoss its high flow rate. In summer, when there is a lot of meltwater from Langjökull, it rises to 140 cubic centimeters per second. The highest flow rate ever measured was an extraordinary 2000 cubic meters per second.

The waterfall has a 100-foot drop over two tiers and flows through the craggy canyon, which is 230 feet high at times. About a kilometer from Gullfoss, the river flows sharply to the right through a wide, dramatic canyon, before then forcing the water sharply into a narrow gorge. Gullfoss falls in two stages, the first is about 11 meters high and the second is 21 meters high.

A very beautiful waterfall. Direct access to the waterfall is closed in winter.
