The parish already existed in the 12th century, which of course also had a house of worship. The lower part of the church tower and the choir in gray sandstone are remains of the building in Romanesque architecture, the year of construction of which has not been determined. Like many other churches, it has a history of arson (end of the 16th century), destruction, expansion and reconstruction. In 1599, after restoration, Bishop Matthias Hovius blessed them again.
