There used to be a spa house here in the 19th century, as the nearby village of Aldfield was renowned for its mineral springs. Sulphur water was discovered here at the end of the 17th century, and the waters were pumped to the Spa Baths in Ripon by the early 20th century. Now, alas, the spa house here is in ruins, with some structures, such as the well-head here, Grade-II listed. A curious and unusual place, this one is.
