Saddle Mountain with an elevation of 3,288 feet (1 km) is the highest peak in Clatsop County. It's home to a variety of meadows that are full of wildflowers, some of which are the rarest and oldest species in the northern Oregon Coast Range. A few of these species, such as the Saddle Mountain bittercress and early blue violet, cannot be found anywhere else. The early blue violet is also the primary food source for the threatened silverspot butterfly. It is an excellent place to pause, take a deep breath, and enjoy the stunning scenery before heading back down.
