Nasimi's poetry focuses on human existence, love, and the search for divine truth. One of his most quoted verses is: "Two worlds fit within me, but I do not fit into this world." This expresses his belief that humanity carries a divine essence within itself.
Martyrdom: His radical ideas and poetry led to him being labeled a heretic by the religious authorities. He was arrested in 1417 in Aleppo (present-day Syria) and sentenced to death by flaying. His tragic death made him a symbol of steadfastness and courage.
Nasimi's influence extends far beyond the borders of Azerbaijan, and his work has strongly influenced subsequent generations of poets in the Turkish-speaking world.
