Walter Ewoldt (1874-1958), district court judge, worked on transport issues, among other things, and was a promoter of hiking in Schleswig-Holstein, author of the work “On the way to solving the Greater Hamburg question”: plans for a unified port construction program for Hamburg and Prussia and a port community; for a significant expansion of the elevated railway network, for a tunnel under the Elbe and for the construction of the planned freight bypass railway.

The Preetz Pedestrian Bridge, built in 1956 or 1958 by Walter Ewoldt, is an iron arch bridge exclusively for pedestrians (and cyclists) to safely cross the railway line below.
It crosses the Kiel–Lübeck state railway line, which has existed since 1866 and runs through Preetz.
