The Ismail Somoni Monument commemorates Ismail I, who as emir led the Samanid Empire in Central Asia to great power in the 10th century and is considered a national hero in Tajikistan.
It stands on Friendship Square, east of the Warsob River. In the immediate vicinity of the monument are Rudaki Park and the Tajik Parliament.
