A few decades ago this district was, so to speak, the ghetto of Salamanca. Since there were no street lights, it was very dark at night - the result was crime. That's why the city has thought about how to make this district more popular and beautiful. The installation of street lights was one thing, much more important was the idea of initiating a street art competition. This movement continues to this day, more and more pictures are being added and the residents of the district identify very strongly with their art. No matter which street we walk down, garage doors, construction sites and even residential buildings are the scene of a number of paintings. The art ranges from underwater scenes to abstract patterns, with materials varying from oil to spray paint to photographs – it's like a free museum.
