Laguna Cullicocha is located at an altitude of 4,630 m in the Huascarán National Park. The lake, as well as the Laguna Rajucocha/Yuracocha (4,700 m) located slightly above, are fed by the glacier on the western flank of the Pukarahu/Nevado Santa Cruz massif.
Since 1992, Laguna Cullicocha has served as a storage facility for the Cañón del Pato hydroelectric power station on the Río Santa. When the natural water level in the river is low, part of the lake is drained.
