In 1935, the church was built as a private chapel of the then landowners, family Karl-Wilhelm Wetzel from Gera. The consecration by church council Reuter from Greiz took place on Reformation, October 31, 1935. As an example, the builders of the Trinitatiskirche in Gera served. The design was designed by the architect Macht aus Gera and was executed by Baumeister Raabe from Crispendorf. In 1945, as part of the land reform, the chapel became the property of the parish of Crispendorf. While the manor was destroyed by supporters of the communist movement in 1948, the chapel was preserved. Between 1998 and 1999, an initiative group restored the small church, which had meanwhile collapsed, in painstaking personal work. On Whit Monday in 1999, the church was re-consecrated on the name of Bishop Nicholas. In a competition of the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) within the campaign "Schwefelhölzchen" in December 2010, the band emerged victorious among the submitted letters and won the title "Smallest Church in Central Germany".
In addition to the monthly services in the church after the installation of a new electronic organ and spiritual evening music are held. Also, baptisms and other ecclesiastical acts take place again. Visits are possible (Wikipedia).

The manor owner Karl Wilhelm Wetzel had the chapel built after a successful eye operation. He wrote: “I had this chapel built so that believers could find comfort and hope in it, in memory of the relief from a serious eye operation.”
