The series "Das Erbe der Guldenburgs" was broadcast on ZDF at the end of the 80s and was the German answer to "Dallas" and "Denver-Clan". Everything revolves around the life of the noble family of Guldenburg. The main roles include Karl-Heinz Vosgerau as head of the family Martin Graf von Guldenburg, Christine Hörbiger as Christine Countess of Guldenburg, Iris Berben as Evelyn Lauritzen and Ruth Maria Kubitschek as Margot Balbeck. The production mainly takes place in Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg.
The filming location for Schloss Guldenburg was the Wotersen estate in Roseburg in the Herzogtum Lauenburg district of Schleswig-Holstein, east of Hamburg. The interior shots, however, were taken on Gut Hasselburg in Altenkrempe. The pictures of the castle of Hertha von Guldenburg were shot in the castle Kulpin near Ratzeburg.
The former St. Pauli brewery served as the backdrop for the fictitious Balbeck brewery competing with the Guldenburg and for a while marketed a beer under the name "Balbeck Pilsener", whose label closely resembled the "Astra" brand. The brewery buildings were demolished after the acquisition by Holsten and replaced by a modern building complex with offices and a hotel. The tower in which Balbecks had her office, however, has been rebuilt in a new form. The exterior shots of the residential building of Margot Balbeck were made on the site of today's villa by Dieter Bohlen in Tötensen.
