Cernobbio is known worldwide by the Villa d'Este. The ancient villa was built by Cardinal Tolomeo Gallio (16th century) and rebuilt into a grand hotel in the 19th century. Of great architectural interest for classicism are Villa Pizza dei Mugiasca, Villa Erba (exhibition building in the park), inhabited by Luchino Visconti, and Villa Bernasconi, one of the first Art Nouveau villas.
At the lake the church San Vincenzo with woodcuts from the 17th century. and a cotto facade (19th century). The church of the Redentore is more recent (1924). Between the village and the Villa d'Este stands the little church of Madonna delle Grazie. In it we find an altarpiece of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, a work of the Recchi and a descent from the San Carlo from the beginning of the 17th century. In Rovenna, independent municipality until 1928, the church of San Michele was rebuilt in the 18th century. It contains a Romanesque processional cross and a wooden altar carved after Barberini's designs.
Market day in Cernobbio: every Wednesday. At San Michele, the patron saint of Rovenna on the 29th of September, a goods and cattle market takes place on that Sunday, which is closer to the feast day.
