Bandstand Havenplein Zierikzee

🎤 The basement hexagonal bandstand with a tent roof on elegant uprights was built in memory of the visit of H.M. Queen Wilhelmina and H.R.H. Prince Hendrik on September 13, 1907 and was designed by municipal architect C. Swartbol. The bandstand located at the Havenpark was extensively restored in 1999. This happened at the surprising private initiative of resident Fred van Herpen, who paid 250,000 guilders to improve the desolate appearance of the structure.

The bandstand is on the harbor square. The Havenplein is located in the center and feels like the center of the city. There is a lot to see here and most of the shopping streets come together. This is the old center of Zierikzee!

The Havenplein is strongly connected to the Old Port. They used to be adjacent to each other. The Havenpark (and part of the square) did not yet exist at the time. This was also a quay with water at the time. This is also called the 'Gold Coast' of Zierikzee. Rich merchants and administrators had the most beautiful houses built here. It is nice to walk around these monumental buildings and enjoy the historic charm.

On Thursdays there is a market on the harbor square near the bandstand from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The square is surrounded by beautiful monuments, each with its own story from the history of Zierikzee. Here you will find beautiful examples of traditional architecture, including mansions and merchant houses that bear witness to the city's prosperity during earlier times.

In the middle of the harbor square there is a fountain, a monument that highlights an important aspect of local culture or history. The sights often add an extra dimension to the atmosphere and meaning of the square.

Catering establishments, such as cozy cafés and restaurants, can adorn the edges of the harbor square. This makes it an inviting place where both residents and visitors come together to enjoy a meal, a drink or just the atmosphere.
