Presumably built in early Christian times, it was first mentioned in 1289 and later in 1395 and 1456. Its medieval features disappeared during renovation in 1737. Then it was re-consecrated on June 27 by Zadar Archbishop Vicko Zmajevic. In 1870, a bell tower with three bells was erected on a base in front of the facade, which were destroyed by German soldiers during the Second World War. The current stone bell tower above the entrance was built on October 1, 1947 with the help of parishioners and the efforts of Pastor Eugen Kontić. New renovations and interventions were made to the church in 1958 and 1997.
