Bischofshof is the former residence of the bishop
The construction of the bishop's court began at the time when the forerunner of today's Regensburg Cathedral was built (700–1172). The oldest part of the building is in the southeast wing, which today houses the cathedral treasure museum. The origins of the Bischofshof brewery of the same name are just as old, as the beer for the cathedral builders was supplied from here.
Even though Regensburg, as an imperial city, was Protestant from 1542 onwards, the city always remained a Catholic episcopal city and residence. The bishop's court was structurally completed in the 1560s under Bishop David Kölderer von Burgstall (1567–1579). The Bishop's Court later served as accommodation for participants in the Perpetual Reichstag. In 1810 the bishop's court was secularized and sold.
In 1852 the building came back into church ownership. The restaurant and brewery have been based here ever since. The production facilities were relocated to the west of the city in 1910; Construction began in 1908.
Today the building is used as a hotel and restaurant; the episcopal ordinariate is 100 meters away.

For centuries, the Bishop's Court also served as a hostel for crowned heads. Since the conversion into a hotel and restaurant in 1910, everyone has been able to spend the night here in style. The inner courtyard with Renaissance arcades and a view of the cathedral is very beautiful.

Good address for food and drink in the immediate vicinity of St. Peter's Cathedral.
