Seeing the large golden sandy beach at the northern end of Frensham Great Pond is a delightful surprise! There can be few other inland waters in the UK where it feels like you are at the seaside.
Frensham Great Pond was created in the 13th century to supply fish to the Bishop of Winchester and his court. The Pond was drained during World War II to prevent it from being used as a landmark for enemy aircraft. Today this tranquil pond of size 60 acres is owned by the National Trust and is a leisure destination for sailing, fishing, warm-weather swimming, paddling and sandcastles!
Of all the Great Pond’s assets, its sandy beach is its most popular feature - especially in summer. However, if you are just passing by on a walk, please be aware that the beach's soft sand can be slow to negotiate!
