This chapel was built in 1895 by the Malfaison family to ward off misfortunes after numerous deaths in the family, including the successive deaths of ten children and three adults. Despite everything, one child and five adults died in the ten years after the chapel was built.
Because the chapel was severely damaged, partly as a result of construction work in the area, the “Friends of the Heritage of Sainte-Marie-Cappel” raised money in recent years to carry out restoration work.
