On December 4, 1980, the Cornilia was in the port of Gythio when its captain urgently needed to be hospitalized. During the captain's hospital stay, the ship was chained up and remained in port until June 1981. In June 1981, the port authorities in Gythio decided to move the ship to the anchorage in front of the port. During a storm on December 23, 1981, the ship broke loose and ran aground on Valtaki beach. The name Cornilia faded and today the ship is known by its previous name Dimitrios.
