The castle, which dates back to the 12th century, is just a short detour from the Ybbstal cycle path. From the tower, which serves as a lookout point, you have an excellent panoramic view of the Mostviertel. Please note the opening times: oejhv.at/jugendherbergen/niederoesterreich/schloss-ulmerfeld.

The castle is visible from afar on a steep hill spur above the Ybbs valley. The current area consists of a four-winged core castle, which is surrounded on the valley side by a deep ditch, on the mountain side by a double ditch with remains of fortifications walls. The history of the castle can be easily understood. The worth seeing plant accommodates the local museum Ulmerfeld, the weapon collection Urschitz and a youth hostel.

It's definitely worth a detour! Especially because there are no places to stop for refreshments along the cycle path! The castle cafe serves special cakes and pastries and a tasty snack! Fresh cider is also a must. The head of the bakery treated us very nicely during his lunch break.
