This small Condrusian village is built around the Place de l'Église, a small, grassy, triangular square where the town's five main streets end. Some houses there are often built of sand and limestone rubble and date from the 17th and 18th centuries. Newer buildings such as the Church of the Immaculate Conception were generally constructed of brick. It was near the Rue des Trois Mêlées in Fontin that the battle of Sprimont took place on September 18, 1794 between the Austrian imperial troops and the French republicans. The church of Fontin was built in 1855 on the site of an old chapel that was already mentioned in 1497. This old chapel was headed by the lord of Avionpuits who chose the chaplain until 1775, after which the chapel became dependent on the priest of Esneux. The parish of Fontin was not founded until 1842.
