The Château de Montsoreau has been immortalized on numerous occasions, notably by Alexandre Dumas in his novel La Dame de Monsoreau, written between 1845 and 1846.
Since 2016, Montsoreau has been a Contemporary Art museum which has the world's largest collection of works from the Art and Language movement. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

With its feet in the water, the Château de Montsoreau is one of the rare monuments that can boast of having the Loire as its garden. It is one of the very first pleasure castles, built around 1455 on the banks of the “king river”, between Chinon and Saumur at the end of the Hundred Years' War. Popularized by Alexandre Dumas' novel, it now houses a contemporary art museum.
